Yesterday was a day for running around and getting hay for the horses.. This hay deal is really starting to bother me... and don't even talk about the price of hay. And what I can't figure out is why it is getting so expensive? Bottom line it don't matter... Got to have it or the boys don't eat.. So just have to suck it up. But it does make me think of getting rid of a few horses, which I hate to even think about, cause then you have to decided who goes and who stays. But will not worry about that today...
A neighbor of mine has been working with me the past couple of days. His name is Butch and his horse is named Cowboy. A great looking horse, I will try to get a picture of him today, but a little nervous. He does not like to be caught. So Butch and I have been working on that with him. The horse is way smart and after just a little while in the round pen, less then 10 minutes he was coming to Butch when asked.. We will work on that more today and start to add more to his program.. I use the round pen for several things but there are two reasons that I focus on, and that is teaching a horse that I am the leader in the herd of two and the second reason is to teach him to be caught... a horse is not much good if you can't catch him. Can't ride him, can't pet him can't do anything with him if you can't catch him. So when horses come here for training we spend the first few days working on that skill. It's easy to teach if you remember why you are in the round pen to begin with.. I pretty sure I have ranted about this before so won't spend a lot of time at it this morning, plus I need more coffee before I launch into it again... But if you will just focus on why you are in the round pen to begin with you will find more success there...
Stay safe.. now where is that coffee.
Will try and keep you updated with info on what the heck I'm doing with horses and music.
