Blue on the drive!
Spent most of the day moving cattle from a pasture north of our house to the ranch to the west. I was working with my neighbor’s son Blue. We had to go looking for half of them but found them and got them moved. There are picture below of some of the action. Kevin the cow dog went a long and, as usual, was a big help.
The horse I rode was Car. He has been with me the longest of any of the horses that I have had. We recused him when he was three and he has taught me so much about horses and how to get along with them, and understand them. He has saved my bacon on a few occasions, and one of them was yesterday. We were in some pretty steep country and I got us both in a bit of a tight spot. When we went over the edge of about an 8 foot drop, he got himself down and underneath me and kept me from hitting the ground.. He got a little something extra for that when we got home.
After riding Tucson the other day he deserved a day off and he got that yesterday. Today we will be back at it with another long ride.
His owner has some really great plans for him down the road. Tucson is a Walking Horse and she has had several and train many. He will be heading home here soon so getting as many rides on him as we can will be the best thing for him. Jan, his owner, will take care of getting him to pick up the proper gate, him being a gated horse and all.
Kathy and I are looking at next year and trying to put together our schedule. We have some folks asking us to put on a Horsemanship Clinic up in Mountainair NM in July so we are looking forward to finalizing the details on that in January. Then in January we will be doing more private lessons in the Mimbres Valley with Sue and who ever else we can round up.
If you think you would be interested in hosting a clinic or demonstration please let us know… Have horse, will travel.
Will try and keep you updated with info on what the heck I'm doing with horses and music.
