Had a couple of really good lessons yesterday with Stan and Deb. Stan continues to make really good progress. You may remember that Stan is in his late sixties and has never really ridden much in his life time. Well, he is learning to sit the trot and is doing great. Deb has never ridden in her life and yesterday was the first day for her to ride on her own. She is learning just to feel what the horse feels and get the hang of putting energy in her body so the horse will move forward. She is doing good. Hope she hangs in there.
I used Charlie as the teaching horse yesterday with these students. I would show the students what I wanted them to do using Charlie to show them. He is really doing well. He's still a baby and at times will act like one, but he is starting to figure out a little about collection, and that is so fun to see. He is learning to back up off the feel of my legs, rather then being pulled backward with the reins. He does pretty good most of the time but, will at times, act like a baby and toss his head and try to get away from the pressure by going forward. When is does it right is is light and soft and pretty to see.
I'm going to work with his feet a ton today cause the farrier is coming Wed. to put his first pair of shoes on. I will try to take pictures so you can all see it. He will let you handle his feet but there is a big difference between picking them up and having someone put a nail in them while he hold them up. So want to make sure he is ready so de does not give my farrier any trouble. Should be fun.
Will try and keep you updated with info on what the heck I'm doing with horses and music.
