This is not Zeb.
Starting over with a horse means starting over everywhere. Including trailer loading. Most people are ok with their horse getting in the trailer. And their definition of being trailer broke and my definition of trailer broke are two completely different things.
So, I have started over with Zeb teaching him to load “himself” in the trailer. I don’t like to get in the trailer with a horse and I don’t encourage anyone I teach to do it either. Sometimes you have to, but most of the time you don’t. If a horse knows how to load in a trailer, on his own, and unload, on his own, he is safer and, more importantly, I’m safer.
Kathy and I are excited to be doing a trailer loading/round pen demonstration this year at the Sierra County Fair, this month, October 21st. I think that these skills are really misunderstood by a lot of folks, and, unfortunately for the horse, wind up being a real deal.
Back to trailer loading. The method that I use to load a horse in a trailer has and is, working better then any other method I have ever used, and I have tried a lot of things. I have only had one horse that would not load using this method. I think the reason that it did not work with her is she was suffering from a lot of other physical issues that, I think, was affecting her ability to figure things out. Once we did get her in the trailer she was fine, but she would just not go, or could not figure out what we wanted.
Zeb is doing better and better each day loading in the trailer. It takes him less time to get in each time I offer him the trailer. He likes it much better than the work he has to do outside the trailer. We are going to start to work on his ground skills, which he is suppose to have but I have yet to see them in him, this week.
I’m day working for my neighbor today. He is forced to ship some of his cattle. So do day Car and I will help him get them loaded.
The rest of the week will be spent getting ready for our clinic in the Membris Valley. Kathy and I are very excited about that too. Most of the folks there will be people we have worked with in the past. This clinic filled up within 30 minutes of me announcing, online, that we were going to put it on. Will try to get pictures.
Will try and keep you updated with info on what the heck I'm doing with horses and music.
