Lyric, Anna, Melody, Mark
Was a nice day for a ride yesterday and had nice company to boot. Melody, Lyric, Anna and Mark went with me yesterday morning to see a little piece of our country. Melody is a fine artist that lives in town and she brought her sister, Lyric and friend from England, Anna out for a ride. You could not have asked for a better day, and from the top of the hills you could see forever. Sounds like a song I once heard.
After that I went back to work with the new colt. I just realized yesterday that I don't know the little horse's name. Will have to get that from the owners next time I see them. Anna thought we should name him Harley, till we find out. That's ok with me. Anyway, we did a little ground work and then offered him the chance to get in the trailer, he took the trailer. It is such a treat to have a little baby around the barn. He calls out, every time I leave the barn with another horse, all the things that young horses do, very cute.
Today, Heidi, the lady that owns the barn where I keep all the outside horses is going to ride. She has battled a ton of health problems the past couple of years and has had a real go of it. But she is feeling better and wants to get back on a horse, so we are going to try and make that happen this morning. I want her to start slow, just a few min. horseback, say fifteen or so, and then build on that. She is one tough lady but I want her experience to not be painful, and I want it to be a delight.
Will continue with the colt this morning with more ground work and getting him use to things moving around him. Am getting him ready for his first real saddle. It's always fun to try and determine if a young horse is going to buck with their first saddle. Most of the time I'm wrong. They seem to fool me Ly, but I'm thinking this little guy is going to try to get rid of the saddle... I will let you know more about that when we get there. I will continue with his trailer loading program every morning and every evening, before breakfast and before dinner. So far so good.
Tomorrow will start four days of gathering my neighbors cattle for his fall shipping. They are usually long days, so the colt will get a day or two off. Will try to get some pictures of the gathering to share with ya. Now coffee.
Will try and keep you updated with info on what the heck I'm doing with horses and music.
