Yesterday was a good day for Cindi and Thunder. Thunder was not feeling very good when Cindi came over the other day and so we did not do anything with him, so yesterday when Cindi got here she asked if she could spend her time with Thunder just taking him for a walk. Of course I agreed that it would be a great idea. So off they went on a walk about. When they returned Cindi was all smiles. Thunder in the past would try to walk all over her and when they got out of the sight of the barn he would just be beside himself. Well that did not happen yesterday, and I think it will not happen again as long as Thunder remembers, and Cindi reminds him, where is place is in the herd of two. So it was a great day for them both as the picture shows.
Donna brought over another horse she has, for the day to get some help in teaching him a skill. The skill is how to lay down. This is a skill that I don’t usually teach in clinics or for that matter show many people. The reason is because most people are not able to do it on their own when they get home. This can result in the horse getting hurt but more often then not it's the owner or handler getting hurt. I will only lay a horse down, that is here in training, if the horse refuses to get in the program. Some horses are just not willing to give up their place in the herd of two. Donna’s horse “Red” is a big boy and it did take a bit to get him to understand that no one was going to hurt him but he did and we were able to work with him for about an hour on the skill. Donna is going to bring him back in a few days for more training in this skill and I will try to let you know how that goes.
Casino is doing great. We are working on lateral flex-sion and, although he is fighting it each day he gets better and better. You may remember I was told that he may h"ave a little problem with bitting. Well he has a bit of a problem. We started yesterday to work on that skill. We did not spend a lot of time on it. It is a skill that, I think, you need to chip away at as a horse goes through their training. We will do more today and the rest of the time that he is here. All in all I’m pretty happy with his progress..
Now I need to progress to the coffee pot.
Will try and keep you updated with info on what the heck I'm doing with horses and music.
