Clinic trailer loading!
The big yellow horse that is here for training is working the end of this week and the beginning of next week on trailer loading. He is doing really good. The thing I have found, about horses is, once they know what you want, and they know that they will find comfort from doing what you ask, they will hunt for the comfort. That’s the case with this horse. In just two days of work he hunt a way to get in the trailer. Now remember this is not his trailer. It has new sounds and smells different and the works, but now when he circles around the back of the trailer he tries to take you in the trailer with him. This is a good thing. My hope is when we are finished with the trailer loading program he is less likely to have issues with his owner when he goes home. Now the trick is to teach his owner how the program works and get her to continue the program when he gets home.
We have another horse coming in this afternoon for training. Looking forward to meeting him and his owner.
Kathy and I are also getting ready for the county fair this Saturday. We are scheduled to perform a round pen and trailer loading demo. I just found out last night that we will have to do the trailer loading demo from the round pen. I have never done this before, and to be honest, am not sure I will have enough room to get the job done. So, this morning when I work with Tenawa and Zeb on trailer loading I will do it with the trailer backed up to the round pen and see if I have any issues with them. May give me a heads up to any issues I can expect at the fair.
People keep asking me for more training DVD's. And I hope to get around to it sometime this fall. I’m a one man show and it’s hard to hold the camera and do the exercise at the same time, but I’ll figure something out.
Will try and keep you updated with info on what the heck I'm doing with horses and music.
