Had another great day with Matt and Bay. We went to the barn in the morning and worked with horses in the round pen. I put Casino in the round pen and explained to the kids why I use a round pen and what I am trying to get done when I’m in there. Then I had Bailey work with Casino. It took her a little while to figure out what I was talking about but it wasn’t long before she had Casino following her around in the round pen. Then had Matt get in there and give it a go. He was a little reluctant at first but in just a very short time he had Casino following him around in the round pen. It’s fun to watch the change that happens in a horse when he realizes that any two legged horse, humans, can move him and he has to listen. Is good for them, the horse, and good for, in this case, Matt and Bay.
We then loaded Casino and took him to the vet to get his vaccinations for the year. No problem there. While we were there, there were other folks doing the same thing. One lady had unloaded a really big palomino that was running her and the doc over. It was pretty scary. When the doc came to help us I commented on what had just happened and he agreed that people let their horses pretty much do what they want and often get hurt. I asked if I could leave some business cards in his office an he said please do..
We stopped and had lunch at our favorite Mexican food joint, then it was back to the ranch. I sent the kids up to swim while I worked with Pepe. He is a very dominate horse and does not really want to get into the program. His owner will be here this morning to work with me. Pepe is another one of those horses that has been the leader in his herd for so long that he just does not want to give up the position. Will take time, not sure that we will have it but we will sure do the best that we can.
Will try and keep you updated with info on what the heck I'm doing with horses and music.
