Had a couple good rides yesterday.
First, Mary my new student and I, took a two hour ride to see some of the country here on the ranch. Mary and her husband are building house out close to us and Mary wanted to see what was over there. She was riding Quato who did pretty good. She had a little trouble with him on the way home but she was able to figure out what to do and got him back to her way of thinking. We took Kevin the cow dog along with us and he had a blast as you can see above.
Then, after resting a bit at home, it was off to ride the Gray. He start out get down the drive way. There are a lot of scary things going that way but he handled them just fine. He continue to grow in confidence and is getting better and better at neck reining.
When I have horses for more then 60 days, we do a lot more riding and a lot less ground work. You all know how I feel about ground work, that it is one thing that can and will fix a lot of problems horses are having without having to get on their backs, and put yourself in a risky situation. However, and the horse starts to understand their place in the herd of two and starts to turst you, you will be able to get a lot done, when it's time to ride.
Never underestimate the power of ground work in helping your horses to over come issues they may have.
Will try and keep you updated with info on what the heck I'm doing with horses and music.
