Well the first hitch in my get up just showed itself yesterday. Here at the barn we provide turnouts. For those that don't know what that is, it's turning out a horse from his stall to a larger area so they can run a bit if they choose. Well, one horse, we'll call him BJ, decided he was not going to let me catch him. He has done this before but we got passed it. I have 23 horses that I have to handle just about everyday, and I don't have time to teach them all to be caught. Why can't I catch him? Who knows. I ask Jeep to give it a try and no problem.
Problem is, Jeep is not going to be here forever. Then what? I have offered his owner to work with him in a training program. She is a very sweet woman, who love this horse, but is not able to spend much time with him, due to health issues. He is, without a doubt, the least trained of any of the horses in the barn.
The reason, I think, he won't let me catch him is, he sees me as a dominate horse/human. He sees that as a threat to, what he considers, his heard.
The owner and I are meeting this Saturday to discuss his future here. If I don't have the chance to work with him to teach him to be caught, he won't get turned out. I sure hope I get the chance to help him.
Coffee? Yes please.
Will try and keep you updated with info on what the heck I'm doing with horses and music.
